Our Mission

TOGETHER is a support group created by Ethiopian families of children with special needs that focuses on educating, empowering, motivating and advocating for them; by providing pertinent information through guest speakers and print; allowing members to share their challenges and victories; and most importantly creating awareness and sensitivity about developmental disabilities in our community.

VISION STATEMENT

At TOGETHER – We envision a brighter future for our children with special needs. As parents, greater responsibility relies on us to effectively advocate for our children, enhance understanding and successfully transition them into mainstream as capable as they are.

TOGETHER will assist to provide access to information on the variety of services that may be available to families in the areas of:

Early intervention, Education, Recreation, Rights of Individuals, Counseling and Therapies.

TOGETHER families foster an environment of trust, support, confidentiality, and safety for our children. We celebrate our small victories and ease each other’s hardship as we journey FORWARD TOGETHER!

Our Objectives

• To provide a place of acceptance where parents can support each other, share ideas and simply interact. Nothing is more soothing than the knowledge that you are not alone.

• To seek any and every assistance.

• To share information and experiences and obtain advice from one another.

• To educate ourselves and others in the community.

• To eliminate the negative myths and stigmas associated with developmental disabilities.

• To foster safe havens for families and children at meetings and events.

• To update the knowledge we have about developmental disabilities and interventions.

• To form a center where information and materials can be accessed and obtained.

• To reach out to families in our community and to form partnerships and provide support.
